Dear ,

today we would like to inform you about a new product from Kapa Biosystems (Kapa Probe Fast kits) , a marketing idea from one of the distributors and an interesting customer testimonial from New Zealand in regard to the Kapa Blood kit and the detection of an avian virus.

I hope you'll have fun. If you have any requests, ideas or questions, send me an email and I'll do my very best

Best regards

Juergen

1) New product from Kapa Biosystems - KAPA PROBE FAST kits

The new KAPA Probe Fast qPCR Kits are scheduled to be launched to the market on June 15th 2009, so in preparation we have all protocols (ABI Prism, Biorad I cycler and Universal kit) available on the web page new-pcr-enzymes-kapa-biosystems/protocols/ . Please note that this time we will not have a specific protocol for the Roche 480 cycler because the Universal kit can be used for this instrument.

Samples of the Universal Kit (KK4700) are available for distribution within the next week so if you wish samples please request them with your next purchase order; the other samples will be available from June 15th onwards. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

Pricing of these kits is fixed as well, so if you are interested please send us an email  mailto:info@nippongenetics.eu and we will inform you about the pricing in your territory.

2) Customer testimonial from New Zealand

Hey Folks.
have some results for you from the Blood PCR kits using avian samples. As I mentioned a few days ago the Blood PCR works really well on direct feather samples. Our latest experiments show that we have managed to get the blood on filter paper stuff working as well.

The way round this is to incubate 2mm by 2mm filter paper blood spot in 50 ul of TE buffer for 10min at 37'C and then use 1ul of it with the blood kit. Kit B works better than A. Nonetheless both the kits work. I have just had a quick chat with my current team and we feel we should write a paper on the rapid diagnostics for BFDV using the KAPA PCR blood kits.

BFDV is a small (~2700 bp), single-stranded circular DNA virus that infects birds - the acronym stands for Beak and Feather Disease Virus.  The disease is best known in Psittacines (parrots and their relatives), but seems to occur more widely than that.  The virus is distantly related to the geminiviruses. Apart from the major problems that the pet parrot breeding industry experiences, BFDV is also thought to represent a significant threat to some populations of wild birds -- in South Africa we have the Cape Parrot, which is endangered.

Even if these birds are not common in your territory this testimonial indicates that the Kapa Blood Kit can be used for the detection of bird virus from whole blood or even directly from feathers.

3) Marketing idea

Dear All
Our distributor in Taiwan shared a simple marketing tool with us during the recent Asia Pacific conference which we have available as a PDF format (if you like, we can send the PDF file to your attention); it is basically a “Post It” notepad with pre-printed reaction parameters on each sheet that the scientist can use during their PCR reactions.

The distributor told us it was well received in his market and the other distributors like the concept so I thought it might be worth considering in your individual markets as it could be co- branded and you could include the support@kapabiosystems.com reference as well as local phone numbers.

Please let me know if you interested in such a "post it" and I'll try to ask for a possibility to print these in Germany.
